Field Guide to Resisting Temptation
http://brevitymag.com/nonfiction/field-guide-to-resisting-temptation/
Today’s post is a perfect example of how an artist (in this case a writer of prose and poetry) can use his or her gift to help bring restoration, redemption and healing to others through their art form. In her piece entitled “Field Guide for Resisting Temptation,” Sarah Wells risks exposure of her own faults and failures to explore the fine line between flirtation and affair.
Her vulnerability won her several awards for this piece including notable essay in Best American Essays 2014 and nominated for inclusion in the Pushcart anthology. But, more importantly, I want you to also take notice of the comment section below the posting.
“I wish I had read this piece a long time ago. I may not have felt so alone, so odd, so needy. Thank you.”
Comments like that reveal that the writer has hit the deep places within, causing her reader to pause, and perhaps, change course. Creativity like this gives an avenue for the Holy Spirit to do his work through you and in others.
I will be posting more about Sarah Wells in the future. For now, I believe this leaves us quite enough to ruminate on for the day.
Blessings of ARTistry, CREATivity & BEaUty, Jody
