Hello Fellow Worshipers! Found this recipe for play-dough with essential oils at One Essential Community and thought I would share it with you. You can find full instructions with photos and essential oil blend ideas.
Playdough is a wonderful way to use the embodied sense of touch during prayer and meditation time. Add essential oils and we include the sense of smell. You can add the following scriptures to embody your prayer, meditation and Bible study time:
One day the Eternal God scooped dirt out of the ground, sculpted it into the shape we call human, breathed the breath that gives life into the nostrils of the human, and the human became a living soul.
Yet you, Lord, are our Father.
We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.
This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord: “Go down to the potter’s house, and there I will give you my message.” So I went down to the potter’s house, and I saw him working at the wheel. But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him.
Jeremiah 18 (I suggest reading the whole passage)
“Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it, ‘Why did you make me like this?’” Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for special purposes and some for common use?
Romans 9 (I suggest reading the whole passage)
Aromatherapy Play-Dough Recipe
- 1 cup flour
- 1/3 cup salt
- 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
- 1 cup water
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil
- food coloring (optional)
- 10-20 drops essential oil (see link below for list of the best calming essential oils for reducing stress and anxiety, plus lots of ideas for making your own relaxing blends)
Step 1: In a saucepan, add 1 cup flour, 1/3 cup salt, and 2 teaspoons cream of tartar.
Step 2: Add 1 cup of water.
Step 3: Add 1 tablespoon of oil. Then turn your stovetop burner onto low and stir the mixture well.
Step 4 (optional): Before the dough mixture gets too thick, add a few drops of food coloring and stir it in well.
Step 5: Now that the food coloring is mixed in, turn up the heat a little. Set your burner to medium low. Stir constantly. Make sure to scrape the bottom of the pan as you stir. The dough will start to thicken. Continue stirring and scraping the bottom of the pan. It could take anywhere from 30 seconds to 3 minutes for the play-dough to fully thicken. When the dough comes away from the sides of the pan and isn’t wet anymore, remove the play-dough from the pan.
Step 6: Remove the play-dough from the pan and place on a piece of waxed paper to cool for about 30 minutes. After the dough has cooled, knead the dough in your hands for a minute or so until it’s elastic and smooth.
Step 7: Poke 3-4 holes down into the dough and add 10-20 drops essential oil. Follow the link for ideas. Knead the dough to mix the oils throughout the play-dough.
Step 8: Store the aromatherapy play-dough in an airtight container.
This recipe makes one large ball of play-dough.
